Sponsors Of The Dodder Dynamoes

(and how we need them to survive...)

The Dropping Well

As you will know from our history Dodder Dynamoes have been around for 20 years. For those 20 years we've been playing softball and going to the pub afterwards. Not just any pub but the Dropping Well, Classon's Bridge, Milltown, Dublin 6.

We owe a great deal of thanks to Charlie Chawke (Owner) &  Peter Cassidy (Manager) for their kind sponsorship of the Dynamoes over the last two years. Was it not for the Dropping Well we couldn't have afforded our fabulous new ground in Alexandra College, Milltown. To have such an excellent playing surface requires a few Euros and the Dropping Well have come to our aid yet again.

It's not as though they don't get anything out of the deal - of course they do - we regularly drink there after our training sessions on Sundays and as always we invite the opposition teams for our league games on Tuesdays. Indeed may teams partake of the excellent food after being thrashed by us in the game - well nearly always...

For those of you who don't the Dropping Well is steeped in history being a morgue way back in the days of the famine. There's a memorial statute at the back of the pub towards the Dodder River commemorating it's role during the famine, which was unveiled by An Taoiseach Bertie Aherne.

In other days gone by a previous owner Mr. Maher used to take all comers in a bout of boxing, where potential candidates could win £50.00 if he was beaten. I'm not sure if he ever was. His name is remembered now in the title of the bar - the "Boxer Maher".

It was in the Dropping Well that the infamous introduction of the "Holy Hour" happened. Some good willing but ultimately misguided politician decreed that all pubs had to shut for an hour during the day to stop the "workers" drinking all of their money. Tch! So what's changed nowadays?

Today the "Well" is known for its great food, warm and inviting atmosphere, excellent staff and great range of alcoholic beverages. The recent refurbishment of the original restaurant downstairs into the trendy "The Bank - Bar & Bistro" has added a new dimension to the pub which now caters for all tastes and styles.
