| After a change of venue was agreed due to poor weather and
all council pitches being called unplayable, the Diamond
Dogs made the long trip across town to try and put their season
back on track. After and outstanding season last year the Dogs
had an eye on breaking into the top three, and having a real go
at the big boys. But after losing to the Greens on opening day,
and then a surprise loss to the Blazzers, the Dogs may have to
re-evaluate their season ambitions. With the top three teams
already pulling away from the pack, they might find themselves
in the relegation dog fight if they are not careful. The loss of
last season's SS and league MVP may have a bigger impact than
they expected. |

The Dogs made a bright start to the game with Sal leading
off and hitting a stand up triple into the gap in centre field.
Jimmy singled to score Sal and the Dogs were on the board, Rasheda
and Humberto added a single and a double to score Jimmy and put
runners on second and third, but a strike out and a grounder to
Carl at second closed out the top of the first.
The Dynamoe response was swift. Ken singled, Noels reached on
an error by Jimmy at short and JC tripled over the two girls
playing centre field to tie up the score. Ruth grounded out to
score JC but the damage was done and the Dynamoes were in front
were they would stay for the rest of the night. |
|
| The next two inning effectively ended the game. The Dogs
didn't get a hit, Dodder hit for fun. In the second after giving
up a quick out Ken hit a trademark monster to score two runs, it
would have been three if Martine had stepped on third as she
strolled around the bags, and JC blasted another HR to score
Noels from one.
In the third the onslaught continued, Julie reached on
another E6, Sam and Ken doubled , Derek tripled, add singles by
Noels, Ruth, JC, Julie and a HR by Carl and it was all over. The
usually spirited Dogs were quiet, the frustration was there for
all to see. They knew they were better than this and to be fair
they are, just nothing would go right for them. |

Rasheda, who went 3 for 3 and scored three runs and had an
excellent game on the night, took a walk off Derek to lead off
the top of the fourth. Humberto smashed a line drive right
passed Derek's ear to move Rasheda to third. With the first two
batters on safely the Dogs were hoping to get back in the game,
but Isabella popped up to pitcher and Ken grounded to Carl who
fired to Hana at first to complete the 4-3 play. Hana gunned the
ball across the diamond to nearly pick off Humberto going into
third. I cant wait until Sky Sports starts to cover the ISA, and
we have replay, I think she got him but it was very close. |
|
| The fifth was a quick inning for the Dogs, three up, three
down but the Dodder offence continued to get hit after hit. By
the time the seventh came around the Dogs would have been glad
to get off the field. They ran head long into the Dodder "A"
game and came off worse for ware. But knowing the Dogs, they
will get it sorted and go into next weeks game against the
newly promoted Sluggers with a point to prove. They still have
enough spirit and quality to at least regain their forth place
finish from last year. |
